About

Maps are confident. Reality is stranger.

Here Be Oddities is a catalogue of real geography that doesn't behave: towns you can only reach through another country, borders that run through living rooms, and map projections that quietly change what you think you know.

The three series

Why does this exist? Places that seem impossible until you hear how they happened.

The map is lying. What flat maps distort, and what the world really looks like.

Further than you think. Distances and directions that don't feel right, but are.

How we work

Every entry is researched before it's written. Each page lists its sources, and where sources conflict, we say the safer thing. Our maps are drawn from real data, including Natural Earth and OpenStreetMap, and anything schematic is labelled.

AI use

Narration uses an AI voice from ElevenLabs. Research, writing, map animation and original music are made by us, with software helping along the way.
